About The Healey Family of Deer Lake

This web site covers the ancestors and decendants of Martin Healey and Mary Duff (Granny) and their families.... Balls, Healeys, Kennedys, McDonalds, O'Briens and Pilgrims. A family Reunion was held in Deer lake from Aug 3rd -  5th, 2006 and 90 relatives attended this event. Belle McDonald the last of the  first generation was the guest of honour at the reunion.

Michael Healey and Bridget Cody were the first of the Healeys to immigrate  from Ireland to Blackhead, Newfoundland. They had 5 sons... Patrick, Edward(Ned), Joseph, Martin and James and 3 daughters... Ellen(O'Rielly), Mary Ann and Mary Joseph(Cantwell). Patrick,son of Michael, married Margaret  Edstromand they had 1 daughter... Bride (Walsh)and 6 sons... Harry, Martin,  Jack, Joe,Ned & Mike. Martin, one of Patrick's children, married Mary Duff of  Topsail and moved to St John's where they had 6 daughters... Marg, Mary,  Eileen, Belle, Florence, Don and 2 sons... Pat and Tom. Martin and Mary moved  to Deer Lake in 1926 where Martin opened a butcher shop. Martin died 10 years  later in 1936 leaving Granny, as she was affectionaly known, to raise this  young family. This was the beginning of the Healeys of Deer Lake as 6 of their  8 children made this community their home and raised their families here.  Marg, the oldest, married Ray Kennedy of Harbour Maine. She moved to this community with her husband and had three sons... Raymond, Bob and Noel. Mary, the second oldest, married Henry Pilgrim of Port Saunders and they  settled in Deer Lake. Mary and Henry had 2 sons... Martin and Tom and 1  daughter...Loretta (Sis).  Eileen, the third oldest, married Ralph Ball of  Deer Lake. Eileen and Ralph settled in Deer Lake and raised a family of 3  daughters...Florence, Cecila and Valda and 4 sons... Randell, Bern, Chris and  Ralph jr..
 Pat, the oldest son, married Mary Ess Dalton of Cape Broyle. Pat and Mary settled in Deer Lake and had 1 son... Martin and 1 daughter... Maureen. Tom,  the second son, married Pauline Bennett of Buchans. Tom and Paul settled in  Deer Lake and raised a family of eight. They had 2 daughters... Shelia and  Marlene and 6 sons... John, Pat, Keron, David, Tony and Tom. Belle, the sixth  oldest child, married Jim McDonald of Deer Lake. They remained in Deer Lake  and had one son... Jimmy. Florence, the seventh child, had one daughter...  Anne Marie. She raised her family in Deer Lake and later moved to St John's.  Donna (Don), the youngest of the family, was adopted. She was the daughter of  Granny's sister. She married Tom O'Brien and they had one son...Tommy. They  moved to Montreal and later settled in St John's.    
 Many of Martin and Granny's decendants still call Deer Lake home today.

The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
